COMPLEX DOUBLE HEART SURGERY (BENTALL Operation with CORONARY BYPASS) On a Iraqi patient at Metro Heart Institute, Faridabad.

COMPLEX DOUBLE HEART SURGERY (BENTALL Operation with CORONARY BYPASS) On a Iraqi patient at Metro Heart Institute, Faridabad.

Mr. Abdul Hassan a 56 years old patient from Iraq has undergone a highly complex double heart surgery successfully at Metro Hospital, Faridabad. Mr. Hassan came to us with breathing difficulty & was unable to even lie down in bed said Dr. S.S Bansal, Managing Director & Sr. Interventional Cardiologist. On evaluation he was found to have an Aneurysm (abnormal enlargement) of the Ascending Aorta (which is the main artery arising from the heart), along with a severely leaking aortic valve. He had very poor heart function (EF - 30%), severe lung dysfunction and also blockage of left coronary artery (LAD).

The size of ascending aorta which is normally about 2.5 to 3.5 cms in healthy adults had increased to 8.3 cms in size due to weakness in the wall of the artery. This could rupture at anytime causing sudden death. Dr. Mitesh Sharma, Chief Cardiac Surgeon studied the case and planned an ascending aortic root replacement surgery (BENTALL OPERATION with Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery), which is considered as a difficult & challenging heart operation. Dr. Mitesh Sharma with his team of doctors removed the entire diseased aorta & inserted a special synthetic tube graft along with a artificial heart valve inside it. He also performed a coronary artery bypass surgery.

In this 6 hours long operation Dr. Mitesh Sharma also removed the patient's coronary arteries and reattached them to the new tube graft to restore blood supply to the heart. Dr. Amit Srivastav, assistant surgeon and Dr. Ashish Gandhi, anesthetist were part of the surgical team. The patient is fine and is ready to go back home. Mr. Hassan is very thankful to the entire team of doctors of Metro Hospital for saving his life as he was told by Iraqi doctors that, he could only survive for around two months and his chances of surviving an operation of this type was less than 50%. Dr. Neeraj Jain, Medical Superintendent & Interventional Cardiologist said that this type of difficult double heart surgery requires a lot of expertise and skill. Dr. S.S Bansal, Managing Director said that our heart surgery team has done difficult Bentall Operations in the past, but Bentall Operation with Coronary Bypass in patient with poor heart function has been done for the first time in entire Faridabad region and we are proud that our hospital has capability to handle such difficult high risk heart surgeries.
