Health Tips To Beat Summer Diseases

Summer is the hottest season with temperature crossing 45 degree Celsius in Delhi/NCR. With the change in climate, high temperature and heat waves; some simple precautions can help prevent heat strokes, dehydration, food poisoning and other common diseases in the summer season.

Dr. Banwari Lal, (Sr. physician) says “healthy eating is one of the most important factors that contribute to good health in summer season”. Below he shares common summer diseases and helpful tips to prevent them. Take a look:

Here are some common summer ailments and their treatment

Sun Stroke: when the body temperature rises due to continuous exposure to heat, a severe form of sunstroke occur which is called Hyperthermia. Headache, nausea, dizziness are some of the common symptoms of sunstroke. 

Dehydration: Dehydration is one of the commonest problems that people suffer during summers. One can face dehydration when the intake of water does not compensate for the water loss in the form of seating. So, try drinking a lot of water in order to keep your body hydrated.

Food Poisoning – food poisoning is very common in summers due to the warm and humid temperature which provides ideal conditions for the growth of bacteria which leads to contamination of food. Consuming such contaminated food can cause food-borne diseases.

Typhoid – Typhoid is a waterborne disease which spreads through contaminated food and water. Its symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Sun Burn: Exposure to harmful UV rays from the sun can lead to painful rashes on the skin is sunburn.

In addition to this, waterborne diseases like diarrhea, dysentery and, cholera, are also some other common summer illnesses that you might experience. All the above-mentioned seasonal diseases can be prevented if you can take necessary precautions at the right time.

How to prevent summer diseases:-

  • Drink plenty of water to overcome dehydration. Increase your intake of fluid, take lemonade, buttermilk, ice tea, and coconut water.
  • Wash your fruits and vegetables properly.
  • Wash your hand properly while handling food.
  • Avoid eating raw and street food
  • Indulge yourself in fresh fruits like watermelon, cucumber, and mangoes.
  • Try to wash and lubricate your eyes with clean water to remove soreness.
  • Make sure to keep your skin covered to prevent your skin from sunburn
  • While traveling outdoor make sure wear cap along with sunglasses as this can keep your face fresh.
