DIFFICULT KIDNEY TUMOR REMOVAL BY LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY (KEY HOLE)

58 year old patient diagnosed with bilateral renal mass, consulted Dr. Ritesh Mongha, Director Urology & Kidney Transplant at Metro Hospital Faridabad. His reports showed 2 cm renal mass on right sided kidney and 5 cm renal mass on left sided kidney. Patient had visited various big hospitals for advice and treatment but most of them suggested to remove both the kidney of patient and need for dialysis.

Patient was investigated for proper diagnosis and treatment, in which he was found to have cancer in both the kidneys. Patient was in pain, and was very disturbed, Dr. Ritesh told him about the Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy which is a minimally invasive procedure and can save his both kidneys.

After the patient consent, laparoscopic partial Nephrectomy was done and patient’s tumor was removed and both the kidney were saved. Dr. Ritesh Mongha said that the current concept in kidney tumor is to save the kidney in kidney cancer, this procedure is also known as kidney-sparing surgery. We removed the tumor/renal mass from patient’s kidney and saved his both kidneys. This is highly technical and complex procedure which require lot of expertise and high end infrastructure. He further said, that at Metro Hospital Faridabad, we are regularly performing laparoscopic partial nephrectomy with near 100% success.

Partial nephrectomy or Nephron sparing surgery has excellent outcome in uro-oncological cases. Recovery time is fast, hospital stay is less, pain is less and life expectancy is better, patient can start a normal life once again. It is very extremely helpful for patients who have existing kidney disease or has disease which can lead to kidney disease or kidney failure like diabetes, HTN, stone etc. in future.
