Patient with Single Kidney & Large Renal Stone Successfully Underwent Stone Surgery

A 50 year old Iraqi patient with a Solitary (one) kidney, came to consult Urology team at Metro Hospital Faridabad for her 7CM renal stone surgery. She visited various other hospital in Delhi/NCR, but nobody gave assurance and told the patient’s family about the complications like kidney failure, need of dialysis, blood loss or the need of an open surgery or multiple surgeries. Patient had multiple comorbidities which includes diabetes and hypertension, so she did not want an open surgery.

Dr. Ritesh Mongha (Director, Urology & Kidney Transplant) told the patient that her surgery can be done with minimal invasive procedure known as PCNL, mainly done in large stone (more than 2 cm) with minihole. PCNL is safe and effective procedure if done by experienced urologists.

He further added “doing PCNL in staghorn stone and giving stone clearance in single stage is demanding urological procedure which requires lot of expertise.” Procedure was done in single sitting with complete clearance of staghorn stone which was confirmed by post-op CT scan. Patient recovered well after the surgery.

Metro Hospital Faridabad, urology department is fully equipped for the treatment of urinary stone with well-trained doctors, staff and high end equipment’s offering excellent outcomes for even the most difficult stones.
