  • Successful cochlear implant surgery on 8 year old Child at Metro Hospital Faridabad

Metro hospital Faridabad has achieved a new benchmark by performing a cochlear implant surgery on 8 year old boy from Sudan. Soon after the birth, parents realized hearing impairment in boy and various local doctors diagnosed it as congenital profound sensory neural hearing loss. Doctors advised to use hearing aid but it was not sufficient as child was facing many challenges in his day to day life.  

Patient’s father consulted ENT department of Metro Hospital Faridabad with hope to gift a new life to his son. After initial examination they were advised to opt for cochlear implant surgery followed by rehabilitation therapy. After initial investigations it was found that he is an ideal candidate for cochlear implant and that this will help him lead a normal life.

A cochlear implant is a small electronic device which provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hearing impaired. Unlike a hearing aid, Cochlear implant bypasses damaged portions of the ear and directly stimulate the auditory nerve.

Dr. Praveen, Consultant ENT department said that this surgery was successful and the boy is doing very well after the implantation and responding to every instruction. He further added that it is very important to create awareness about Recognization of deafness in children at an early stage as this improves their chances of hearing clearly. A child with cochlear implant can lead a normal healthy life without adverse effect in performance in school or day to day life.
